5月15日の朝、東京及び全国16の県で 合計14億の現金が盗まれた( a total of ¥1.4 billion in cash was stolen)という事件。警察は、同時に(simultaneously) 偽のクレジットカード(counterfeit credit card)を使って南アフリカで漏えいした情報(leaked information)によるアカウントが使われたとみている。恐いですねぇ。

さて、今日は、パート2によく出る単語を見ていきます。

1) overdue : The bill is two months overdue.

2) office supplies : Don’t use office supplies for personal use.

3) sign up for : You must sign up for the courses you are going to take.

では、意味を確認しましょう。

1)「期限を過ぎた」: その請求書は支払い期限を2ヶ月過ぎている。The library books are three days overdue. (図書館から借りた本は返却期限を3日間過ぎている) due date は「締め切り」ですね。

2)「事務用品」: 会社の備品を使用に使うな。medical supplies は、医療用品、school supplies は、学校用品。supply and demand は「需要と供給」ですが、日本語とは語順が逆なので注意が必要です。

3)「〜に申し込む」: 履修する科目を登録しなければなりません。register と同意。Please register as a member in your real name. (会員登録は本名でお願いします) I bought my purchases to the register. となると「私は買ったものをレジへ持っていった」と言う意味です。
