では、今日はパート3によく出る単語を見ていきましょう。

1) hammer out : hammer out a definite course of direction

2) business associate : I’m looking for a birthday gift for my business associate.

3) turnout : There was a large turnout at the international trade fair.

では、意味を確認しましょう。

1)「打ち出す」明確な方向性を打ち出す/ hammer は、名詞で「木槌」の意味もあり、hammer price と言うと「落札価格」となります。何かのテレビ番組で聞いたことがありませんか？

2)「仕事上の友達」仕事仲間への贈り物を探しています。associate は、動詞でもよく出てきますね。The full moon is associated with unusual behavior.(満月は異常な行動を連想させる) Tom is associated in partnership with his brother as a publisher.(トムは兄弟と提携して出版業を営んでいる)

3)「参加者」国際見本市は大変な賑わいだった。 There was a good turnout at the polls. (かなりの投票数があった)  turnout は「生産高」という意味もあるので覚えておきましょう。
